I wonder if this will mean the end of affirmative action programs, now that it has been proved that a minority can attain the highest office in the land. Hmmm... somehow I doubt that will happen. Somebody always wants compensation for something. Welcome to the New World Order.

Surely, Both Colin Powell and Condi Rice attained their positions in part due to AA - and they're the poster childs for the "racism is over, look?" crowd.

So now we live in a post-AA world. Would you feel comfortable with the people running the show having got there through AA programs ? In 2 years there is another House & Senate election. This experiment will be over then.

you dont understand the concept of AA, its giving someone a chance, where they'd not get one otherwise. It's not expecting them to not deliver. We all can expect a lot from obama, and should.

I did say that the US has made a collective stride in race. HMF hasn't sunk anywhere, HMF was banned because his views were too radical and too uncontestable to those at SM.
Well, riddle me this, if as you are being put under on an operating table, your surgeon , scalpel in hand leans over and tells you how his journey to be a surgeon wouldn't have been possible without AA programs, would you still feel you are in good hands ? As somebody said,in this election "The Presidency is not about a journey of personal discovery". The market dropped 5% today. Even when Bush was relected in 2004, it rose by 1%. Obama has chosen Clinton POS Chief of Staff to be his Chief of Staff. Yeah, a millionaire investment banker. This is the "change" we expected ?
This is the silliest question. Technically every white surgeon you had has been the biggest indirect beneficiary of "AA" that you could think of.
This entire country is full of white people who've advanced on the basis of their ancestor's receiving of AA.

To further answer the question, I would want the doctor who performed the best, whether they got the opportunity to go to med school out of AA or out of their daddy having connections with the school...doesn't make much of a difference.

Anyway, once the adoration and animal sacrifices come to an end people are going to want results. The loving Walter Durantyesque press will have to take their rose colored glasses off. And what they will find is "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss". Let's check back in a year and see if Biden's ominous prophecy of the Messiah being tested comes to pass and how he does.
Wouldn't bother me at all if my surgeon got to med school through AA. Fact remains without performing well, passing exams and knowing her stuff, she would've never gotten to the point of operating on live human beings.
The world is celebrating Obama. Why? He represents change and hope for billions around the world. He represents someone willing to talk and negogiate with the opposition first, BEFORE jumping on the bomb wagon. He represents youth, IT, someone who is abreast of the times. He represents a new age. High expectations. Let's hope he indeed delivers!
If nothing else think of it like this. Law of Attraction. So many people around the world are confident that the new US president will indeed bring fresh, new, positive, progress and peace.
The collective thought of human beings is powerful. Just by the positive vibes alone something has to shift.
